Gyros is a typically Greek, very tasty but quick meal. The base consists of a mixture of spices of the same name, in which grated oregano and mint cannot be missing, a mixture of ground sweet and hot peppers, pepper and salt. It is traditionally prepared from pork or mutton. But we have a recipe for you for a fantastic chicken gyros, which will have wonderfully toasted edges, right in the middle, and you can prepare it “lying down”, without a vertical skewer.

But all this will be done without your attention. The preparation itself on the grill or in the oven also only takes a few minutes. It’s actually more fun to prepare this great, tasty and inexpensive dish.
Preparation process

First prepare the marinade. Put oregano, paprika and garlic in a bowl, add lemon juice and olive oil and mix well. Lemon juice is very important – the meat becomes fragrant, nicely soft and retains its juiciness during baking.

Cut the meat into strips or cubes and mix with the prepared marinade. Thread pieces of marinated meat onto skewers, seal in a container or skewer, cover with foil and refrigerate. Leave to marinate for at least an hour, preferably overnight, to absorb all the flavors and aromas.

Leave the marinated meat on the skewers to “breathe” at room temperature for about half an hour before baking or grilling. Then add salt and pepper and fry until golden brown on all sides – either on an outdoor grill or in the oven, but it also works in a grill pan on the stove.

All you have to do is add Greek salad, tzatziki and pita bread to the ready meat on the plate and you have an authentic Greek feast.
