Getting fresh mint is not difficult at all, especially during the summer months. It is sold at farmers’ markets and, if you’re lucky, grown on your balcony in a pot or in your garden. It is a very resistant plant that, even with minimal care, will reward you with beautiful green leaves, an intoxicating aroma and a fresh taste that natural menthol gives it. Besides the well-known peppermint, connoisseurs can also grow other varieties, such as lemon, strawberry, chocolate or pineapple.

Peppermint is a well-known medicine that relieves digestive problems or headaches, unclogs a stuffy nose, helps strengthen immunity, improves breath or cleans the skin. It is enough to chew its leaves, drink mint tea or treat yourself to mint in many other delicious forms.
Make mint syrup
Homemade syrup fresh mint can be used for its preparation excellent lemonades and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, for tea or to taste ice cream cups and others sweet desserts. If you want something sharper, give it a try homemade mint liqueur.
Bring mint pesto to life
Add mint leaves to dishes with Pesto, to which it gives a refreshing taste. Mint goes well with basil. Or immediately prepare your basil and mint pesto according to the recipe, which is also suitable for vegans:
What you will need:
- 1 large clove of garlic
- 1/2 cup cashews
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
- about 2 cups of fresh basil leaves
- about 1/3 cup fresh mint leaves
- 1 teaspoon of lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- about 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (or more to taste)
- about 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Wash basil and mint leaves, dry and mix with garlic, walnuts, seeds, lemon peel and juice. Gradually pour the oil to the desired thickness and add salt to the pesto at the end.
You can use basil and mint pesto for the pasta roasted vegetables, in the soup, on toast and on meat.
Swirl your drinks
When you get ready any lemonade, put a few leaves of fresh mint. Mint goes perfectly with lemons and other citrus fruits, also with cucumber, Strawberrys or watermelon.
And if you want to take your drink to the next level, make ice cubes with mint in them. Put two to three mint leaves in each hole in the mold, cover them with water and let them freeze. If you use boiled cooled water, the cubes will be crystal clear.
Make Watermelon Mint Pizza
It’s not pizza in the true sense of the word, but its appearance strongly resembles an Italian specialty. Unlike the classic one, it does not contain so many calories and is extremely refreshing. The basis is a round watermelon leaf without seeds, which you can decorate according to your own taste and imagination with fruits of different colors and mint leaves. You can also add honey flavored Greek yogurt, crumbled feta cheese or chopped walnuts.
Season salads and other dishes with mint
Fresh green mint leaves are not only a beautiful and tasty addition fruit salads. It goes well with vegetables, for example Greek with olives or ice cream with cucumber and crispy bacon. Don’t just stick to salads and don’t be afraid to add mint to other dishes. Ready quickly couscous with fragrant sweet tomatoes with the scent of aromatic mint it will serve perfectly as a quick lunch, a light dinner or a simple side dish. Include mint in a classic Italian dish full of vegetables called Vignarola. When you mix chopped mint into Greek yogurt, you get quick and tasty sauce not only for roast or grilled meat.
Cool down with mint ice cream
What better refreshment on hot summer days than fresh ice cream from the freezer? Add fresh mint to coconut ice cream with raspberries, strawberry ice cream or tropical fruit ice cream. And since we already mentioned that mint goes well with watermelon, try this recipe for sweet watermelon and mint ice creams:
What you will need:
- 4-5 cups diced watermelon, seedless
- about 10 medium leaves of fresh mint
- 2 spoons of honey
- 1 and 1/2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice
Mix all the ingredients in a blender until you get a smooth mixture (it only takes about 30 seconds). Pour the mixture into ice cream molds and freeze for at least 6 hours.
And your skin will enjoy it
Treat your skin to some mint care, which will be wonderfully smooth and fresh thanks to the strawberry and mint mask. In a bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 cup of plain yogurt, 6 finely chopped strawberries and 6 chopped mint leaves. Apply to face and leave on for 20 minutes. Then wash and dry your face.
